Arthur Joseph LaPierre, Jr.

Garner, N.C. — Formerly of East Thetford, Vt., Arthur LaPierre, age 69, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Duke Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. He was born in Lebanon, N.H., on May 2, 1943, the son of Arthur LaPierre, Sr. and Mary (Ashford) LaPierre. He was a graduate of Thetford Academy, Mary Fletcher School of Nursing, Claremont Technical College and Keene State College. Arthur had a lifelong love of learning. He had long careers in nursing and the mining industries, and retired as Safety Director from the Vermont League of Cities & Towns.

Arthur was enlisted in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran and awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He was dedicated to community service as a volunteer fire fighter and EMT member, was a leader of the Booster Club and a basketball coach for 10 years. His passions included camping with his Limehurst Campground family, along with being an avid basketball fan and devoted family man.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marina LaPierre and his beloved dog Gus; his three daughters, Julia LaPierre-Heer and her husband James of Raleigh, Carrie Baker and her husband Jason of Brookfield, Vt., and Michelle Hollis and her husband Derek of Thetford, Vt.; along with five grandchildren, Timothy Hollis, Taylor Hollis, Henry Baker, Emily Baker and Logan Heer. He is also survived by his brothers John LaPierre and Peter LaPierre and many other relatives. He was predeceased by his son, Donald LaPierre.

A service will be held in the Spring with arrangements by Hale Funeral Home of Thetford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Donald LaPierre Scholarship Fund c/o Carrie Baker, 4988 VT Route 65, Randolph, VT 05060.
