Richard W. Davis

Bethel, Vt. — Richard W. Davis, 85, of Bethel, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, 2013, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

He was born Jan. 19, 1928, in South Amboy, N.J.; the son of Richard M. and Florence (Walling) Davis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was married to Madge M. Montrey in Old Bridge, N.J., on July 18, 1950.

Richard owned an automotive garage in Keyport, N.J., from 1950-1971, when he moved to Bethel and operated Ditchwitch North Inc. in all of New England, until retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Bethel Rotary Club and the United Church of Bethel. His quirky good humor was appreciated by his family and friends. He enjoyed swimming and sailing, and was fond of the letter “Q.”

Survivors include his wife, Madge Davis, of Bethel; son, Richard A. Davis, of Bethel; daughters, Wendy Lynn Trautvetter, of Rock Ledge, Fla., Donna Lee Bjune, of Prescott, Ariz., and Linda Jean Davis, of Walpole, Mass.; sisters, Natalie Skwiat, of North Brunswick, N.J., and Carol Walsh, of North Carolina; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
