Letter: Appalled by the Weapons Raffle
To the Editor:
Thank you for the Jan. 12 front-page article by Mark Davis (“N.H. Police Chiefs Raffle Off Guns to Benefit Youth Program”) informing the readership of the planned raffle of 31 firearms by the New Hampshire Association of Police Chiefs. Details about the weapons on page A3 describe one of the guns as a semi-autoamatic assault rifle with a 30-round capacity and another as being “designed for the Army and (one that) has been carried by Navy Seals.”
The raffle of these guns is appalling. I did receive a response to my letter protesting the raffle. If you are opposed to more guns in New Hampshire, please write to Chief Steven Marshall, chairman of the Raffle Committee, at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org to express your opposition. Chief Marshall’s response was polite, stating that my request to stop the raffle and refund the ticket holders’ money would be brought before the Executive Board for discussion. Please be active by writing to the organization. These are not hunting guns!
