Guy L. Wheeler

Springfield, N.H. — Guy L. Wheeler, 95, of Main Street, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at The Clough Center in New London. He was born in Springfield on Oct. 9, 1917, the son of Harold M. and Pearl (Stone) Wheeler. He attended Towle High School where he played football and baseball. He served in the US Army during WWII as a member of the 43rd Signal Company in the Pacific.

Mr. Wheeler worked for New England Telephone Company for 35 1/2 years, retiring in 1982 as a PBX specialist for Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and Dartmouth College.

He lived in Meriden, N.H. for 36 years before moving to Springfield in 1983. Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion Post 40 and a strong supporter of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoor sportsman.

His wife of 68 years, Georgena L. (Butcher) Wheeler, died in 2008. He is survived by a son, Gary Wheeler of Manchester, N.H.; a daughter, Janis Wheeler of Lilburn, Ga.; a granddaughter, Kimberly of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother and his wife, Kneiland and Lucille Wheeler of Pittsburg, N.H.; nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Springfield Town Hall. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London, N.H. 03257.
