Dorchester, N.H. — Virginia Lois Brewster (Jordan) (Ingraham) Penniman, 85, of Dorchester passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, after a brief illness. Born on March 19, 1931, in Portland, Maine to the late Wilbur I. Brewster and Dora J. (Mains). She spent her early years out on the Isles of Shoals where her father was one of the lighthouse keepers. Virginia attended local schools in Otisfield and Falmouth Maine.

By 1950 she had graduated from Cosmetology school. She opened her own hairdressing business in South Portland, Maine after a few years. Virginia worked as a hairdresser in Maine, Florida and Connecticut for over 30 years. She was a very artistic person, turning her many talents to drawing, painting, carving and sewing. As a teenager she studied art briefly under Roger Deering.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Donald Brewster; her nephew, Michael Brewster; husbands, Chadwick Jordan, Warren J. Ingraham Jr. and Leo A Penniman. She is survived by her brother Ralph Brewster and his wife, Linda of Fairfield Maine; several nieces and nephews; daughter, Cava Castagnaro and husband, Joseph; and grandson, Joseph (JJ) of Lisbon, Conn.; neice, Kathleen Douglass and her husband, Fred of E. Haddam, Conn.; and her longtime companions, Dr. (PhD) Vergil Grant and Flash of Dorchester.

Per her wishes, a memorial ceremony will be conducted at a later date. Virginia’s family would like to thank the VNA Hospice nurses of New Hampshire and Vermont for all the care and concern shown to Virginia during her illness as they helped her negotiate her final journey. She was a loving and caring person who danced to her own rhythm. She is sadly missed.
