Local roundup: Lebanon boys tennis finishes regular season atop standings

LEBANON — The Lebanon High boys tennis team (13-1) finished the regular season as the No. 1 ranked team in New Hampshire Division II with a 9-0 win over Windham.

No. 1 singles player Nolan Arado was an 8-0 winner, and No. 2 Will Katz, No. 3 Kyle Hines and No. 4 Baden Schifferdecker all won 8-1. Lucas Graham was an 8-2 winner at No. 5 and Lindsey Church-Cole won 8-4 at No. 6. In doubles play, Arado and Katz won 8-1, and in the day’s closest matches, Schifferdecker and Hines were 9-7 winners and Church-Cole and Graham won 8-6.

Girls TennisWoodstock 7, Bellows Fall 0

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps’ No. 1, 2 and 3 singles players, Brooke Hecker, Hannah Watson and Charlotte Nunan, respectively, all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Tess Belisle and Maggie Pierce, at No. 4 and 5, each won 6-1, 6-1. Sophia Nisimblat and Chloe Masillo won their doubles match 6-0, 6-0.

Woodstock (8-2) welcomes Burr & Burton on Monday.

SoftballLaconia 16, Lebanon 2

LACONIA, N.H. — Laura Hines and Ashlee Blashock each had a hit, and Natalia Somoff and Hines scored the Raiders’ runs.

Rya Wykes went three innings in the circle for Lebanon, and Anny Braley and Nitara Murray pitched an inning each. The Raiders’ lack of depth in the circle led to walks, wild pitches and their eighth consecutive loss. Lebanon is 2-11.

The Raiders, who are allowing an average of 14 runs per contest, visit Oyster River (9-6) on Friday for their third game of the week, all on the road.

Oxbow 23, Lake Region 5

BRADFORD — A 13-run fourth inning settled this one for the undefeated Olympians (13-0), who had 17 hits on the afternoon.

A Makenna Simmons double scored Oxbow’s first two runs in the first inning. In the fourth, three walks loaded the bases, leading to an error, several singles, a sacrifice fly and a double. Lily Lahaye, Braylee Phelps, Faith Eastman, Maggi Ellsworth, Brianna Gray and Noemi Rosa all drove in runs in the frame.

Gray got the start, pitching two innings and giving up five runs on seven hits. Anastase Bourgeois, who had four hits, threw three scoreless innings in relief.

“What a day to celebrate our Senior Day and the first ever Oxbow Fights for All Colors fundraising game,” Oxbow coach Chuck Simmons said. “The girls hit the ball well and it was a team effort.”   

Oxbow travels to Spaulding next Thursday.

Winnisquam 14, Mascoma 10

WEST CANAAN — Mascoma led 9-8 after four innings, but the Bears went ahead for good in the fifth and got the final out with the bases full of Royals in the bottom of the seventh.

Mascoma’s Piper Morgan and Sara McKinney had solid days at the plate with multiple hits each.

“It was a good game with some great plays in the field for us with very few errors,” Mascoma coach Christine Labore said.

The Royals (0-12) travel to Belmont on Friday.

Thetford 4, Randolph 3

THETFORD — The Panthers improved to 6-4 and will play Lake Region at home in a doubleheader on Saturday.

SOUTH ROYALTON — The Wildcats (3-11) travel to Green Mountain on Tuesday

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps (3-5) overwhelmed the winless Wildcats (0-8) and play at Hartford on Tuesday.

CLAREMONT — The Cardinals fell to 5-8 and will welcome in Mascoma on Monday.

BaseballLebanon 7, Laconia 4

LACONIA, N.H. — The Raiders scored a pair of runs each in the sixth and seventh innings to complete a comeback and move one game above .500 at 7-6.

Ben Achmoody had two of Lebanon’s eight hits and drove in two runs, and Zach Aldrich had two RBIs on sacrifice flies. Winning pitcher Nick Brill had two hits and was one of seven Raiders, who played errorless ball, to score a run. Laconia took an early 3-1 lead and was ahead 4-3 after five innings.

“We struggled to find the strike zone and that will make any game tough. This team is resilient and found a way to come out on top,” Lebanon coach Chauncey Wood said. “Brill pitched great at the end to get the win. He also had a great day at the plate. When Brill gets going offensively it sparks the rest of the lineup.”

Lebanon travels to Oyster River on Friday.

White River Valley 15, Mill River 4

SOUTH ROYALTON — Robby McShinsky was 4-for-4, drove in four runs and scored four, and Tattin Griffin had two hits and four RBIs for the Wildcats.

Ty Couture, who had three RBIs, pitched a complete-game against the Minutemen (0-11) with five strikeouts, giving up five hits and four runs. 

Brayden Russ scored three runs and added an RBI, Finn Bailey had a hit and scored twice scored with an RBI, and Jacob Benoit and Sonny Snelling each scored twice. Wyatt Cadwell drove in a run and had one hit.

WRV (10-3) plays Green Mountain at home on Friday.

Windsor 8, Otter Valley 4

BRANDON, Vt. — Johnny Clark struck out 10 over six innings and had two hits and two RBIs to lead Windsor to its second win of the year against the Vermont Division II Otters (6-6).

Maison Fortin had three hits and an RBI for Windsor, which led 4-1 after two innings. The Otters tied it in the third, but the Yellowjackets scored two in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Otter Valley comes to Windsor (2-10) on Monday.

Thetford 13, Randolph 1 (5 innings)

THETFORD — Xander Ohsoniyi led the Panthers at the plate with a double and three RBI, and on the mound he threw four shutout innings, allowing four hits with four strikeouts.

Boone Fahey and Owen Goodrich each had two hits and an RBI and scored two runs, and Jacob Gilman tripled and drove in a pair. Thetford broke the game open with nine runs in the fourth inning.

“It was a great game for us all around,” Panthers coach Phil Chaput said. “We hit well and played solid defense. Jacob and Xander had great days at the plate.”

Thetford (8-4) travels to North Country on Saturday.

Winnisquam 20, Mascoma 9

WEST CANAAN — Mason Ballard, Jack St. Pierre, Zach Thompson and Brody Goulette had two hits each in the loss.

St. Pierre was the losing pitcher, giving up 10 runs on seven hits in three innings. The Royals committed six errors on the day.

Mascoma (3-9) travels to Belmont on Friday.

Woodstock 12, Springfield 8

SPRINGFIELD — The Wasps (4-7) play Springfield again at home on Friday.

Rivendell 11, Mount St. Joseph 1

ORFORD — The Raptors (5-7) picked up an impressive win over the Green Wave, who fell to 8-3. Rivendell hosts Twin Valley on Tuesday.

Stevens 23, Hopkinton 3

CLAREMONT — The Cardinals improved to 8-5 against the Hawks (1-12) and will play Mascoma at home on Monday.

Lake Region 23, Oxbow 2

BRADFORD — The Olympians (2-11) are back in action Tuesday at home against North Country.

Boys LacrosseCoe-Brown 16, Stevens 1

NORTHWOOD, N.H. — The Cardinals remained winless at 0-9 and will play Inter-Lakes–Moultonborough at home on Monday.
