Local roundup: Stevens boys rally for win at rival Newport
NEWPORT — A third-quarter eruption by the visiting Stevens High boys basketball team proved decisive in a 67-53 win at rival Newport on Tuesday night.
The hometown Tigers (1-3) built a 36-32 lead at halftime but Stevens (3-2) found another gear in the third quarter, going on a 21-4 run to take control of the game.
Hunter LaRocque had 17 points to lead the Cardinals. Jai-Lique Ribeiro added 15, Lucas Belisle had 13 and Mason Ferland had 10 points.
Kayden LaClair, a recent transfer from Stevens, led Newport with a game-high 21 points. Kyle Ashley added 11 points and Karter Pollari had seven.
The win is the second in two nights for Stevens, which hosts Windsor in a twin-state battle on Friday night at 7 p.m. Newport visits Monadnock on Thursday night.
LEBANON — A 25-4 run for the Raiders in the first quarter erased any drama in this battle with the Generals.
Talan Patkul led a balanced Lebanon scoring effort with 15 points. Samuel Bates added 14 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Dawson Bates and Nicholas Brill each had nine points. Chase Adams added eight.
The Raiders (2-2) hit the road to face Milford on Friday.

MEREDITH, N.H. — Zach Thompson had 30 points and Mascoma ran up 41 points in the first half in cruising to victory over the Lakers.
The Royals were without Aiden Smith due to illness. Coach Silas Ayres praised both James Thomas (11 points, including three 3-pointers) and Tanner Moulton (10 points, two 3s) for stepping up to fill the void. Mascoma opened the game on a 20-8 run and never relinquished the lead.
The Royals (5-2) visit Conant on Friday night.
HANOVER — The Bears came up short to the visiting Sabers, dropping the hosts to 0-5.
Ryan McLaughlin led Hanover with 11 points. Teddy Sumner added nine points. Roy Lucas and Christian Blix had seven each.
The Bears continue the search for their first win with a visit to Coe-Brown on Friday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Junior guard Kamryn Brower’s free throw in the last 30 seconds lifted the Hurricanes (4-1) to a big win over the Colonels in a back-and-forth game.
Hartford dealt with foul trouble throughout the evening but persevered, with Brower leading the hosts with 12 points.
“That was huge,” Hurricanes coach Heidi Bushway said. “When Kam stepped up to the foul line, she’d been struggling at the foul line a little bit, and to step up and hit that one was huge. That was a great win for these girls.”
Hartford has another tough test coming at Thetford on Friday.
WEST CANAAN — Gabby Pierce had 16 points to help Mascoma (2-4) snap a three-game losing streak.
Freshman Makenna Houston added 13 points and Leah Larocque had 12. The Royals won each individual quarter, consistently keeping the visitors at bay. Mascoma used an 11-5 run in the second to earn some decent breathing room.
The Royals host Stevens on Friday night.
SOUTH ROYALTON — Tanner Drury had 17 points to pace the Wildcats (3-2) over Green Mountain.
Ella Perreault added 13 points and a team-best 12 rebounds. Ashlyn Rhoades had 12 points. Freshman Olivia Tuller added eight points and 10 boards. Jillian Barry had nine points.
“We came out with good energy tonight and everyone had good, productive minutes,” WRV coach Tim Perreault said.
The Wildcats visit Leland & Gray on Saturday.
THETFORD — The Panthers (4-2) outlasted the Solons for a quality home win.
Kelsey Bogie had 15 points to lead Thetford. Addie Cadwell added 11 points.
The Panthers host Hartford on Friday.
WEARE, N.H. — The Raiders were doomed by second-half foul trouble against a very strong Generals team.
Lebanon scored 21 points in the second quarter to trail by just one, 28-27, at halftime. The Generals then outscored the Raiders 13-4 in the third to take back control.
Sara Belk (12 points) and Norah Burns (eight) led the Lebanon offense. Coach Chris Boucher also praised Belk’s work on the defensive end to limit Generals’ star Eleanor Giradet to nine points.
The Raiders (1-4) host Milford on Friday.
WEST LEBANON — The Raiders (2-2-0) trailed 4-2 at one point before scoring nine of the game’s final 10 goals to pull away.
Sara Forman had three goals and three assists to pace the hosts. Mackenzie Ray added two goals and an assist. Olivia Pollard had a goal and four assists. Maezie Angles had two goals and two assists.
“I’m proud of our girls for battling back after falling behind, but hopefully we learned our lesson and will be ready to start the game no matter who we’re playing,” LSK coach Mike Sheehan said.
The Raiders hit the road on Saturday night to face Bishop Brady-Trinity-Londonderry.
