White River Junction — The White River Junction VA Medical Center is set to host its sixth annual mental health summit on Friday.

The summit gives behavioral health providers at the VA and elsewhere in the community a chance to share information and resources in hopes of improving care for veterans, according to a Monday news release.

This year’s speakers will discuss suicide prevention, whole health and the VA and the Vermont National Guard deployment cycle, VA spokeswoman Katherine Tang said in an email.

Two veterans will share personal narratives about their recoveries, which did not fit the traditional mold: retired Staff Sgt. Misha Pemble-Belkin will discuss his experience with Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports and retired U.S. Marine and Iraq War veteran Jon Turner will discuss his work at Wild Roots Farm in Bristol, Vt.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in the Yasinski Research and Conference Center in Building 44.

Those who have questions or would like to register should contact Elise Garrity at or 802 295-9363, ext. 6959.
