Town Meeting preview: Three candidates on the ballot for West Fairlee Selectboard

Articles of note: One article asks whether voters will exempt the West Fairlee Fire Department from property taxes for another five years. Another asks for an appropriation of $66,000 to support the fire department.

Contested races: Three people are running for one Selectboard seat, ending in 2026: Beverly Jo Ash, Cory Austin and Willard Ordway.

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed municipal budget is $870,656, of which $734,000 is expected to come from taxes. Last year, voters approved $811,000 in operating expenses and appropriations, of which $677,000 was expected to come from taxes, according to Valley News reporting at the time.

When, where and how to vote: West Fairlee is scheduled to hold its Town Meeting on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at the Community Building. It will then elect officers and vote on the budget in Australian ballot voting on March 7 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. also in the community building.
