Hartford — A 22-year-old assisted-living facility worker has been accused of sexually abusing an 83-year-old woman with dementia.

Valley Terrace employee Michael Paton, of Thetford, allegedly had sex with the woman in her room on Monday, according to a Vermont State Police news release issued on Tuesday night.

An employee at the Christian Street facility caught Paton in the act, police said. The woman was treated and later released from an area hospital.

Police arrested Paton on Tuesday and cited him into court on a charge of felony sexual abuse of a vulnerable adult. He was taken to Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vt., for lack of $10,000 bail, according to the release.

Patron will be arraigned at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Windsor Superior Court in White River Junction.
