QUECHEE — A man was hospitalized after grabbing high-voltage wires at a power substation on Deweys Mills Road as he was attempting to elude police on Tuesday morning, according to a police news release.

Hartford police officers responded to a report of a vehicle parked in the middle of the road. While on scene, they found that the vehicle had been stolen from Berlin, Vt., and that a “suspicious male” was ringing the doorbell at a nearby residence and attempting to break in by shattering a window.

The man, whom police did not identify, fled on foot and entered a nearby power substation, even though it was surrounded by fencing and barbed wire and was marked as dangerous.

Despite attempts from officers to deescalate the situation, the man climbed the substation and grabbed high voltage wires before falling to the ground.

With assistance from the Hartford Fire Department, officers rescued the man and he was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending. Police ask that anyone with information about the incident contact the department at 802-295-9425.
