Newport man pleads guilty to sexually abusing a minor

NEWPORT — A 40-year-old Newport man pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a minor, less than eight weeks after he was arrested and charges were brought against him.

Timothy Wright pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault in Sullivan County Superior Court in Newport on May 9 and was sentenced to a minimum of 7½-15 years in state prison on the first count, according to New Hampshire State court records.

On the second count, Wright received a sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison, to be served consecutively and all suspended, court records show. He was also ordered to participate in sex offender and counseling programs.

Wright, of Summer Street, was arrested on March 16 and charged with sex assaults against a girl under t 16-years of age who was known to him. The assaults occurred over a period of years, according the police affidavit in support of the charges.
