Mount Ascutney HR Director Receives Statewide Award

Windsor — Jean Martaniuk, ​​who has been the human ​resources ​director at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center for more than 23 years, has received the 2017 Human Resources Professional Award from the Vermont Society for Human Resource Management.

Martaniuk received the award at the organization’s annual conference, held at the Killington Grand Resort Hotel in Killington in September.

Martaniuk, of Windsor, has worked at​ ​Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center since 1977, when she started in the accounting ​office.

She moved to the human resources department as an accounts ​payable and payroll ​technician in 1992 and was promoted to human resources ​director in 1994.

Dr. Joseph Perras,​ p​resident, CEO and ​chief ​medical ​officer at the hospital, nominated Martaniuk for the award.

He said in a news release that Martaniuk “provides invaluable insight to the organization on staffing strategy, compensation, benefits and professional development” and is “a regional leader in the field, as an active member of HR associations at the national and state levels.”

Free Smoking Cessation Workshop Coming To Bradford, Vt.

Bradford, Vt. — A free tobacco cessation workshop will be held in Bradford on Fridays throughout January, beginning on Jan. 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The workshop is free and open to anyone 18 or older who is looking to quit smoking or using tobacco.

The program is hosted by Little Rivers Health Care, the Vermont Blueprint for Health and Clara Martin Center.

It is designed to help individuals learn to curb cravings, develop coping strategies, prevent relapse and meet others who are quitting.

Workshops will be held at the Clara Martin Center Farmhouse, 1740 Lower Plain, Bradford, Vt.

The program is slated to continue throughout 2018 and there is no limit to the number of sessions a person can attend.
