WOODSTOCK — Turns out, Hartford High boys basketball coach Mike Gaudette had no reason to worry about a Saturday morning tip.

The Hurricanes’ game at rival Woodstock was moved from Friday night to 10:30 a.m. Saturday due to a shortage of officials, but Hartford was alive, awake, alert and enthusiastic in a 63-21 romp over the Wasps.

Junior guard Sean Dunton led the Canes with 14 points and sophomore guard Ayodele Lowe added 11. Fellow junior guard Christian Hathorn chipped in with nine on a trio of 3-pointers.

“I wasn’t sure how we’d be. Saturday morning games, you never know,” Gaudette said. “We went through a walk through this morning for about a half hour, got them out of bed early. They’ve been resilient all year.”

Hartford (14-2) hosts Windsor on Monday. Woodstock (4-10) welcomes Stowe on the same day.

Nordic skiingLebanon's Hanna wins 5K Coaches Series

WHITEFIELD, N.H. — Lebanon's Annie Hanna finished first among 154 competitors in the 5K free style Nordic event at White Mountain Regional High School with a time of 11:48.

Hanover's Nicholas Van Citters finished 22nd among 158 skiers in the boys race. Van Citters' time of 11:32 was less than two minutes behind race winner William Riley of Belmont (9:42).

Other top finishers among the girls were Elsa May of Hanover, (21st), Sophie Longacre of Lebanon, (30th), Elizabeth Kourbatski of Lebanon (31st), Heidi Davis of Hanover (37th) and June Clark of Hanover (49th).

Lebanon's top finisher for the boys was James Barnett (29th). Other finishers for the boys were Carson Jones of Lebanon (33rd), Otto Bourne of Lebanon (40th), Francis Calandrella of Lebanon, (44th), William Parker of Hanover (46th) and Lachlan McCann of Hanover (49th).

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — Tanner Drury's 26 points led the Wildcats, who held the Terriers scoreless in the first quarter and to three points in the first half.

Ella Perrault had nine with 10 rebounds and Ashlyn Rhoades added seven points.

"Good defense leading to good offense," WRV coach Tim Perreault said. "The team is really working hard every day."

The Wildcats (13-4) travel to Springfield Monday.

West Rutland 81, Rivendell 25

ORFORD — Rivendell was no match for the undefeated Golden Horde, who were led by Peyton Guay with 28 points.

Shaylee Carter had nine for the Raptors and Ryleigh Butler eight.

Rivendell (1-17) plays Green Mountain at home on Tuesday.

Hartford 6, Stowe 0

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes got a pair of goals from Nedra Dwinell and a goal and three assists from Madison Barwood in the "Pink in the Rink" game at Barwood Arena that raised money for the Vermont Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Grace Hayes, Braelyn Park and Julie McDermid scored the other goals for Hartford, which was up 4-0 after one period and tacked on a goal each in the second and third. Ada Acker had two assists for the hosts.

Hartford (9-8) is home against Missisquoi Wednesday, Senior Night.

Kingdom Blades 1, Woodstock 0

WOODSTOCK — The Kingdom Blades made a first period goal stand up in a contest between two of the top-ranked teams in VPA Division II.

The goal came at the 10 minute mark of the first. Shots on goal were almost even with 16 for Woodstock and 17 for the Kingdom Blades.

Woodstock (13-4) is at Burr & Burton on Wednesday.

Hanover 7, Bedford 2

WEST LEBANON — The Bears improved to 9-2-2 and will play at Concord on Monday.

Maeve Lee scored three times for Hanover, and Mackenzie Liu, Nora Bradley, Maggie Feng and Julia Lawe had a goal apiece.

Boys HockeyTrinity 6, Hanover 2

MANCHESTER — The Bears had two goals from Henry Cotter and 23 saves from Jo Jo Drent in the loss.

Hanover coach Dick Dodds said his team had their chances but was not passing well.

"Everything was a little off today," Dodds said. "Offensively we had our chances just couldn’t finish. We hit posts three times that when we are going good find back of net but when we aren’t don’t."

Hanover (6-7) is at Nashua North on Wednesday.

Kearsarge 4, Lebanon-Stevens-Mount Royal 3 (OT)

WEST LEBANON — The Raiders scored twice with less than a minute left in regulation to tie the game but Kearsarge got the game-winner with 59 seconds left in overtime.

The Cougars had the early first period lead, 1-0, and the game remained that way until Lebanon's Paddy Mooney tied it at the nine minute mark of the third. Kearsarge took a one-goal lead two minutes later then went up by two at the 14-minute mark. But LSMR wasn't done. Mooney scored 20 seconds later and Tyler Christian tied it with a second left in regulation. Lincoln Manson had a hat trick for Kearsarge.

LSMR (1-13) is at Berlin-Gorham on Wednesday.

Hartford 6, Milton 3

MILTON, Vt. — The Hurricanes won Saturday’s rematch of last year’s VPA Division II final, which the Hornets won with a stunning late comeback.

Senior Blaine Gour became the 14th player in Hartford program history to reach 100 career points. Gour, Nolan Morlock, James McReynolds (2), Ezra Mock and Ozzie DeFelice accounted for the Canes’ scoring. McReynolds added two assists as well.

Hartford (13-3) is at Harwood on Monday.

Woodstock 9, Harwood 0

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps snapped their eight-game losing streak, improving to 4-11 after scoring three goals in the first five minutes.

Junior Ethan Havill had a hat trick and two assists, senior Graehem McKeon had two goals and three assists and freshman Ian Coates had five assists. Kyle Costales, Griffin Piconi, Will Coates and Trey Jones had a goal apiece. Dominic Palazzo had 19 saves in his first career shutout.

Woodstock is at U-32 on Monday.

BowlingStevens knocks off Keene

CLAREMONT — The two-time defending NHIAA state bowling champion Cardinals defeated No. 1 ranked Keene, a week ahead of the state championship.

Stevens, seeded second in the Baker round, beat fourth-seeded Spaulding, 2-0 (207-160, and 160-142). In the final, Stevens beat Keene, the No. 1 seed, 2-0 (253-210 and 183-149).

Top qualifiers for Stevens were Maddox Foster (180, 157), Devyn Corliss (201,185) and Pat Fredette (194, 179). 

Saturday's state championship will begin at 9 a.m. in Keene with the state's top nine teams competing. Stevens is currently ranked fifth but could move up a spot after this weekend's win.

Windsor wins at Valley Bowl

RANDOLPH, Vt. — The Yellowjackets swept the Baker round in a four-team match, beating the three seed Hartford, 2-0 (132-82, 155-143) and the top seed Craftsbury, 2-0, (143-136, 171, 170)

Windsor's top qualifiers were Alyssa St. Louis (185, 159), Avery Bean (182, 126) and Victoria Feickert (155, 150). Hartford's best in the qualifying round were Connor Fredholm (156, 181), Joey Gallant (101, 151) and Hailey Rogers (142, 101).

The regular season wraps up at Maple Lanes in Claremont on Saturday with Windsor, Hartford, Brattleboro and Fair Haven.

Swimming and divingHanover sweeps diving events at state meet

DURHAM, N.H. — Saturday's NHIAA Division II state swim meet was postponed to Sunday after the facility at the University of New Hampshire lost power.

On Friday, Hanover senior Janina Li and junior Sam Calderwood captured first place in the diving portion of the meet. 

For Calderwood, it was his third straight state championship, while Li won her first state meet in the 1-meter diving competition.

The diving scores will be added to Sunday swimming scores.
