BURLINGTON — Jordan Davis won the discus and javelin and Ayodele Lowe took first in the long jump as the Hartford High boys track and field team finished third at the Vermont Division II state meet, edging fourth place Peoples by two points.

Burr & Burton won the boys title among 12 teams with 121.5 points, followed by U-32 with 89 points. The Hartford girls were 12th of 15 teams with eight points.

Davis was also second in the triple jump, Alan Aldrich finished second in the shot put and Ayodele second in the high jump. The 4-by-100 Hartford relay team of Austin DeFelice, Lowe, Gabe Guillette and Payton Bessette finished second, setting a school record with a time of 44.99 seconds. Violet Goodwin had the best finish for the Hartford girls with a third-place showing in the discus.

“All the kids gave everything they had,” Hartford coach Mike Perry said. “I am really proud of them.”

Sharon boys, girls fourth at state meet

MANCHESTER, Vt. — Lily Welch won the triple jump, teammate McAllister Gray was second in the high jump and Freya Abbey second in the pole vault as the Phoenix girls finished fourth among nine teams at the VPA Division IV state meet at Knapp Field.

The Sharon boys were also fourth with Luke Miller winning the pole vault and finishing second in the 800 meters. Jack Lloyd was second in the triple jump and third in the 100 meters.

In the 4-by-800 relay, Sharon took second with the team of Bryce Rikert, Gabe Malloy, Ira Ferro and Caleb Benjamin. The 4-by-400 relay team of Lloyd, Rowan Royael, Miller and Malloy finished third. Benjamin finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump, and Jacob Jeffries was third in the discus.

The Phoenix girls were third in the 4-by-100 relay with the team of Gray, Welch, Maddy Mintz and Phoebe Quackenbos and also third in the 4-by-800 relay with Avery Swett, Evelyn Murawski, Imi Rose Gross and Amelia Bailey-Kellogg. Other third-place finishes included Quackenbos in the pole vault and 200 meters, Gray in the high jump and Abbey in the 300-meter hurdles.

Rivendell freshman Sydney Schoebeck won the 200 meters and long jump and placed second in the javelin as the Raptor girls placed seventh.

THETFORD — The Panthers and Slaters were tied in the seventh inning of a VPA Division III quarterfinal game when Madi Mousley doubled and scored the winning run on solid hit to the outfield by Ashlyn Osgood.

Osgood went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. No. 2 seed Thetford (9-6) had 10 hits on the afternoon and needed a solo home run in the sixth by Grace Elmer to pull even with No. 7 seed Fair Haven (6-12). Makayla Stanley got the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing five runs on 13 hits with eight strikeouts.

Thetford moves on to meet the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 3 BFA-Fairfax and No. 6 Vergennes in the semifinals.

MORRISTOWN, Vt. — The No. 5 seed Hurricanes plated a run in the first inning, but the fourth-seeded Wolves answered with three in the bottom half and added 10 more over the next three innings to lead by 10 after four in the VPA Division II quarterfinals.

Hartford finishes at 10-6 and will lose seniors Joey Biggs, Trenton Bird, Ethan Jacobson-Goodhue and Shane Jenks.

Blue Mountain 14, Rivendell 0

WELLS RIVER, Vt. — The No. 1 seed Bucks (16-1) brought the Raptors’ season to an end in the VPA Division IV quarterfinal matchup.

Rivendell, seeded eighth, finishes the year at 8-9 and will graduate Josh Gould, Harry Molesworth, Ashton Pierson and Zach Parker.

JERICHO, Vt. — The No. 4 seeded Cougars were too much for the fifth-seeded Hurricanes in the VPA Division II quarterfinal match.

Hartford finishes the year at 5-6 and will graduate Maggie Dumont, Silvia Hale, Jaklyn LaFountain, Anthem Philip and Cecilia Wendling.
