NORWICH — Sam Sacerdote shut down Pelham over five innings, throwing 60 pitches with nine strikeouts on two hits to lead the Hanover High baseball team to an 8-1 win.

Alex Boone threw two scoreless innings to close the game out. Hanover surrendered an unearned run in the fifth to the Pythons, who committed five errors.

Jack McGrath had two hits and two RBI and Sam Loescher drove in a pair with two sacrifice flies. Jackson McBride reached base three times, scoring twice.

Hanover (3-0) is at Pembroke on Monday.

Lebanon 1, Souhegan 0

LEBANON — Dominic Calandrella’s one-out fielder’s choice scored Sam Bates with the winning run and pushed the Raiders to 2-1 on the season. 

Bates led off the seventh inning by reaching on an infield error, before being sacrificed to second by his brother, Dawson. Sam Bates moved to third on a wild pitch before Calandrella hit a grounder that the Sabers’ second baseman tried unsuccessfully to throw home in time.

Dawson Bates allowed four hits during 6 2/3 innings of pitching. He struck out six batters, walked two and hit two. The Raiders had six hits, Calandrella collecting two of them. 

Souhegan starting pitcher Joe Mayo allowed five hits and no runs while striking out seven foes and walking none in six innings. Brayden Hickman relieved for the Sabers (2-3). Lebanon hosts Bow (2-2) on Wednesday.

Monadnock 26, Newport 0

SWANZEY, N.H. — The Tigers fell to 1-2 against the undefeated Huskies, who have registered five shutouts and scored 67 runs.

Newport will look to rebound at Hinsdale on Wednesday.

LEBANON — The Raiders enjoyed just their fifth victory during the past six seasons after opening the season with two losses by a combined 34-2. 

The Sabers (0-6) surrendered four hits to Ashlee Blashock and three to Ava Kaercher during an NHIAA Division II contest ended in the sixth inning by the 12-run rule.

Rya Wykes and Aylah Salls each had two hits for Lebanon. Kaercher, a freshman who moved to the area from Arizona, allowed four hits and no runs during 5 1/3 innings. She struck out 11 opponents for the second consecutive game, issued no walks and stole three bases.

Lebanon (1-2) hosts Bow (2-2) on Wednesday. Two days later, the Raiders visit archival Hanover (0-2).

SWANZEY, N.H. — The Tigers (1-0) opened the season with a big road win and travel to Hinsdale on Wednesday

NORWICH — The Bears managed just two hits, a triple by Kit Tullar and a single by Sophie Wise, in the loss to the Pythons. Hanover (0-2) is at Pembroke on Monday.

LEBANON — The Raider took their first loss of the season with a narrow defeat by the undefeated and top-ranked Bobcats in a NHIAA Division II contest.

In singles, winners were Nolan Arado (8-0), Kyle Hines (8-0) and Finn Ericson (8-4), but Will Katz, Baden Schifferdecker and Lindsey Church-Cole lost their matches. Tied at 3, Lebanon’s Arado and Katz won the first doubles contest 8-4 and in the critical second match, Schifferdecker and Hines went down 9-8 in a tiebreaker. In the final match, Lebanon’s Lucas Graham and Ericson were defeated 8-5.

Lebanon (4-1) is at Coe-Brown on Tuesday.

Hanover 7, Pinkerton 2

DERRY, N.H. — The Bears won three of four matches that went to tiebreakers, which made the difference in this one.

“If we had lost those three tiebreakers we would have lost overall, so we really won by only a handful of points,” Hanover coach Kelly Finn said.  “It was a challenging match. We had a moderate constant wind down court the whole time, so people had to adapt their game based on which side they were on. Everyone stepped up to the challenge though and played really well.”

Singles winners were Sam Ames (9-8), Nick Pais (8-3), Zach Pearson (8-1), Ryder Wilson (8-2), Henry Werner (8-4) and Alex Orsino (9-8).

Pearson is undefeated in singles play this year and has lost just six games in four matches. He and Pais won their doubles match in a tiebreaker.

Werner and Ming Liu lost in doubles to complete the scoring. Hanover (2-2) is off until a home match against Nashua South on May 1.

SWANZEY, N.H. – The Raiders overwhelmed Monadnock, easily winning every game and finishing four straight days of matches. 

Aesha Soni (8-2), Adaa Karanwal (8-2), Hailey Schibuola (8-1), Mari Utell (8-2), Amalia Mladek (8-4) and Hannah Rich (8-0) were the singles winners. In doubles, the wins went to Soni/Karanwal (8-0), Schibuola/Utell (8-2) and Mladek/Rich (8-0)

Lebanon (2-4) is off until it travels to Trinity on May 1.

LEBANON — Otto Bourne scored three goals and added an assist for the hosts.

Benji Madory also had a goal and an assist for the Raiders and James Barnett made 11 saves.

“While we were able to catch Coe-Brown off guard, we shot ourselves in the foot with turnovers in key moments,” Lebanon coach Cole Flannery said. “Our defensive unit played an incredible game.”

Lebanon (1-3) welcomes Kearsarge on Friday.

Hanover 10, Kennett 6

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — Hanover got four goals and an assist from Brendan Kwaku and three goals from Jack Gardner in the win.

Sam Bagatell, John Scherer and Mateo Trimble added a goal each with Bagatell getting three assists, Schuyler Clapp two and Jack Wilkinson one.  

“The team showed marked improvement from the season opener on Tuesday (9-6 loss to Goffstown) with lots of players contributing to scoring and plenty of room for continued growth for the team,” Hanover coach Sean Murphy said.

Hanover (1-1) has its home opener against Hillsboro-Deering on Tuesday.
