NORTH HAVERHILL — A 68-year-old Lebanon man will plead guilty to criminal charges of possessing child pornography and is scheduled to be sentenced to state prison later this month.

Michael Collins filed a notice of intent to plead guilty to six counts of possessing child sex abuse images, according to New Hampshire state court documents.

Collins, most recently of Bassy Street, was arrested and charged with six counts of possessing child sexual abuse images on electronic devices, all class A felonies, at his Lebanon home in April 2023.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Collins will plead guilty to three counts of possession of child sex abuse images and serve from one to three years in New Hampshire State Prison, according to a notice Collins’ attorney filed in Grafton Superior Court on Dec. 20, 2023.

Upon release, Collins will further plead guilty to three additional counts of possessing child pornography, for which he will receive a 7½- to 15-year sentence suspended for 10 years. He must also participate in a rehabilitation program for online sexual offenders until he has demonstrated a “positive response” to treatment, according to the notice.

“While agreeing to plead guilty is something Mr. Collins did not take lightly, we were gratified that the few images that were found on his computer, coupled with the lack of severity often found in cases like these, qualified him for the lowest minimum sentence available, and Mr. Collins will be eligible for release within a year,” Carolyn Cole, Collins’ attorney, said via email.

A plea and sentencing hearing with Collins is scheduled in Grafton Superior Court on Jan. 23.
