Haverhill woman dies in Fairlee crash Wednesday night

FAIRLEE — A Haverhill woman died following a single car crash on Route 5 in Fairlee on Wednesday night, according to a news release from Vermont State Police. 

Miriam Metz, 79, was driving a 2013 Audi A3 north on Route 5 in Fairlee at about 10:30 p.m. when it left the roadway, which was wet, after failing to negotiate a left hand turn. It came to rest about 500 feet from where it left the roadway on the east side of Route 5, near Coffin Lane. The vehicle was a total loss.

Metz, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries in the crash and EMS transported her to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where she died. 

The Vermont State Police were assisted in their response by the Fairlee Fire Department and Upper Valley Ambulance, Inc.

The incident is under investigation. Witnesses or others who may have information about the crash are asked to contact Trooper David Wicks of the St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-222-4680.
