HANOVER — A Hanover High School graduate has at least one claim to fame on his first day on Jeopardy, with a dramatic win to snap another contestant’s 19-day streak and becoming $22,400 richer in the process.

Gabe Brison-Trezise, a former captain of the Hanover High School Quiz Bowl team who now works as a researcher in Washington, D.C., will now move on to Friday night’s episode.

Brison-Trezise staged a come-from-behind win, pulling just close enough in the final seconds to prevent a runaway game for longtime winner Jason Zuffranieri, then acing “Final Jeopardy” with the sole correct response for the victory.

Zuffranieri, a math teacher from Albuquerque, N.M., entered Thursday’s episode with a 19-day total of $532,496. He finishes his run in third place for highest total regular-season winnings in Jeopardy history and is tied for fourth place for most consecutive wins, according to the quiz show’s website.

At Hanover High, Brison-Trezise led the Quiz Bowl team to consecutive state championships.

After graduating from Kenyon College in 2016, he helped coach the Quiz Bowl team at Hanover High, where he also served as the adviser for the student newspaper, the Broadside.

Brison-Trezise, the son of a Dartmouth College professor, also has worked as a freelance correspondent for the Valley News.
