ENFIELD — Town officials on Friday said they have postponed Town Meeting from Saturday until Saturday, July 11, because of continuing concerns about COVID-19 and the need to practice social distancing.

“Please note, we will only convene this meeting if it is permissible to do so,” Town Moderator Lindsay Smith said in a notice to Enfield residents. “We will be constantly reassessing and reevaluating how to run a safe and productive Town Meeting. We do have some backup plans in the event that there are still ongoing restrictions on assembling. We will also have safety protocols in place regardless.”

The floor portion of the meeting originally was to be held March 14 at the Enfield Village School but was initially postponed until May 9 as the new coronavirus reached the Upper Valley.

The meeting in July, which is to start at 9 a.m. will be held at Mascoma Valley Regional High School, which is in West Canaan more than a mile from the Enfield town line.

Enfield Town Manager Ryan Aylesworth said the high school’s auditorium, which has at least 500 seats, was larger than the Enfield Village venue and would better allow voters to be spaced apart for social distancing purposes.
