Two indicted for shooting guns in Claremont

NEWPORT — Claremont brothers Tyler and Mathew Barry were indicted this week on charges that they fired firearms in various places in the city on Dec. 30.

Tyler Barry, 26, faces counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm and willful concealment.

Matthew Barry, 24, faces two counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and a single count of criminal threatening with a deadly weapon.

Tyler Barry allegedly fired a 9 mm pistol in the direction of several residences on Dec. 30, striking them.

Barry, a felon, was out on bail at the time, according to Sullivan County Superior Court indictments, which were handed up this week. He also allegedly stole a pellet gun from Walmart that day.

Matthew Barry allegedly shot a 9 mm pistol in a populated area near the Sugar River in Claremont and also out the window of a truck near Main Street. He also allegedly threatened to shoot Brandon Teeter, who was with the Barrys that day, according to the indictments.

They have pleaded not guilty to the initial allegations. Their cases are slated to go to trial.
