Town Meeting preview: Canaan

Article of note: One article would bring the number of commissioners on the Historic District Commission to seven, an addition of two from the current five. Another article would discontinue the Class VI road Rameor Road.

Contested races: Dan Collins and Scott Johnston are vying for a three-year term on the Selectboard.

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed operating budget is $5.25 million, up from $4.64 million last year. If defeated, the default budget would be $4.9 million. The proposed water and sewer budget is $291,000 to be raised by user fees. An article seeks $100,000 for town paving projects this year.

When, where and how to vote: Ballot voting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Canaan fire station, 62 NH RT 118.
