Mason, adoptable from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society

"Hi! My name’s Mason and I’m a 5-year-old neutered mixed breed dog.

“I have a great sense of adventure and love to be outdoors, which is one of the reasons I’m here at Lucy Mackenzie. A nice man was taking care of me until we realized we weren’t a great match. His home didn’t have a fenced in area, and he wasn’t really able to walk me on a leash. I thought that meant I could run wherever I wanted to go, so I did! That didn’t work out so well, so we decided it would be best for me to find a new home.

“In case you haven’t figured it out, my new home should have a fenced-in area or I need to be walked on a leash at all times. The good news is that I really do like going for walks and being around people. Like I said, I have a great sense of adventure and would love to find a new human that loves to go out hiking, or playing fetch, and other fun things like that.

“I’ve worked very hard on my obedience training with my people friends here at the shelter, and I’m doing so very well! I have allergies and eat a hypoallergenic diet, which makes me feel so much better. Otherwise, I get very itchy and red all over.

“I really am a very good boy and just know that I could really make a great companion for the right person. If you’ve been looking for a new canine best friend, stop in and meet me today!”

(Mason is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.)

Puppy, adoptable from White River Animal Rescue

Meet Puppy!

Puppy is a wonderful, all-American southern girl mixed with something on the smaller side. Puppy is a typical playful, fun pup.

Puppy is very much an attention seeker and loves to lay around on and all over her people. She gets along well with dogs and kids. Training was effortless for her. She’s a very smart girl.

(Puppy is up for adoption from White River Animal Rescue, who can be reached at Follow the rescue on FacebookTwitterInstagram and Pinterest.)

Neo, adoptable from Upper Valley Humane Society

Neo here. I'm an active 2 year old cat who's always looking for something to do. I hate being bored! I enjoy playing with toys, especially strings and mice toys. I'm the type of cat who has a lot of energy and when I get bored I can get myself into a little bit of trouble. I'll need my new home to be okay with giving me lots of playtime and exercise to keep me occupied. I do enjoy being petted and sitting on a lap occasionally, but I also prefer to keep all four paws on the floor. I've met some cats here at the shelter and don't seem too fond of them, but I might do okay with a respectful cat. Dogs? Never met one, but I'd be open to meeting one! If you'd like a firecracker like me, then come say hello!

(Neo is up for adoption from Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, located at 4832 Route 44 in West Windsor and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 12-4 p.m. Lucy Mackenzie is also on Facebook and Twitter and can be reached at 802-484-5829.)

Candie, adoptable from Sullivan County Humane Society

I am 3-year-old Candie. My mom lost her house and then had to be hospitalized for an extended time. It broke her heart but she realized that she needed to do what was best for me and surrendered me to the humane society. I was very scared at first but with patience, I warmed up and even enjoy being held! I am vet checked, spayed, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative!

(Candie is up for adoption from Sullivan County Humane Society, located at 145 Broad St. in Claremont. Please see hours on the humane society website at and Facebook. Call 603-542-3277 or email
