THETFORD — Thetford has hired a Vermont town administrator as its next town manager.

Brian Story has served as town administrator in Johnson, Vt., since 2016 and will start his new role in Thetford on June 19, according to a news release from the Thetford Selectboard.

Story replaces Bryan Gazda, was town manager from early 2021 until this spring, when he left to take a job as Hartford’s director of public works. Tom Yennerell was appointed as interim town manager in early May.

Story grew up in Michigan and moved to Northern New England after graduating from Philadelphia’s La Salle University in 2008, according to the release. He was a math teacher at Keene High School for six years before taking an internship with Montpelier’s Vermont League of Cities and Towns in Montpelier. After earning a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Vermont, he was hired by the town of Johnson.

“Brian has experience and a skill set that will help Thetford move forward with its goals,” Selectboard chair Sharon Harkay said in the release. “We look forward to working with him and welcoming him and his wife into the community.”
