WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Aqueduct company has issued a do not drink order for all residents who get water from the system. The ban extends to drinking, cooking and washing dishes.

The water is safe for bathing and washing items that are not used for eating or drinking, according to a statement posted online by the town.

Officials said it could be Tuesday at the earliest before regular water service can be restored.

The water system was damaged during last week’s flooding, and multiple pipe breaks are keeping the system from properly repressurizing, according to the town.

The company was using fire hoses as a stop-gap measure to maintain service, as it had during the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, and it issued a boil water order last week.

However, the company was informed Friday that the fire hoses potentially contain contaminants and the water that passes through them cannot be made safe to drink through boiling.

The state is assisting the company in an effort to expedite the pipe repairs.

Updates on the status of the water will be posted on the town Listserv and on its Facebook page.
