WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Another quick start, another easy Vermont Summer Baseball League win for the White River Junction Junior Nighthawks.

White River Junction piled five hits and four runs into the bottom of the first inning and used the early outburst for an 10-1 win over Rutland at the Maxfield Sports Complex. Since dropping their opener last week, the Junior Nighthawks (4-1) have won four straight games and outscored their foes, 35-8.

Robert Slocum (Windsor High) produced a two-run single, scoring Kyle Hamilton (Hartford) and Ryland Richardson (Windsor) to get WRJ going in the opening frame. Cameron Boardman (Oxbow) and Jacob Barry (White River Valley) doubled the lead to 4-0 by scoring on a two-run single from Jacob Dwinell (Hartford).

The Junior Nighthawks finished with 12 hits. Barry had a three-hit night, adding a three-run double in the fourth inning. Hamilton and Dwinell both had two hits. Slocum earned the win on the mound.

White River Junction hosts Bellows Falls on Thursday night. BF handed the Junior Nighthawks their only defeat, 4-2, on opening night last week.
