FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Adam Gase is calling a timeout on the perceptions that he won a power struggle with Mike Maccagnan.

The New York Jets coach — and acting general manager — said he was surprised when team chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson told him Maccagnan was being fired as the GM last Wednesday.

There had been rumors and reports during the NFL draft that there was tension between Gase and Maccagnan, which both denied. When Johnson made the stunning announcement that the Jets were parting ways with Maccagnan, many viewed it as Gase coming out on top in a clash of philosophies.

“I disagree with that, as far as a power struggle,” Gase said on Monday while speaking briefly at the team facility. “Whoever is getting hired is going to have the same role: control of the roster, control of the 53. I will coach the football team. That’s what I’m going to do. Nothing’s changing in that structure.”

Gase is entering his first season with the Jets after three in Miami, where he made the personnel decisions with the roster but went 23-26, including 0-1 in the playoffs, with the Dolphins before being fired.

Cowboys’ Elliott detained at festival

LAS VEGAS — Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott was handcuffed by police, but not arrested, after a scuffle involving event staff at a Las Vegas music festival, officials said on Monday.

The 23-year-old running back was detained briefly about 3 a.m. on Saturday near a gate to the overnight Electric Daisy Carnival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway after police officers saw him “push a security officer to the ground,” Officer Laura Meltzer said in a statement.

“The security guard who was the victim of the misdemeanor battery refused to press charges,” the statement said, and the officers released Elliott. He was not charged with a crime.

SOCCERBetter check those World Cup tickets

PARIS — Fans planning to attend the Women’s World Cup in France are finding out that the seats they bought might not be together.

Tickets were made available to print on Monday, and ticket holders learned their seats were sometimes split up in separate rows and even sections — even families with young children were separated.

FIFA used the verified Women’s World Cup Twitter account to remind fans that they were notified during purchases that not all seats would be together. A separate post says orders may be modified for parents whose seats are separated from those of their young children.

The tournament starts June 7 and runs through July 7.
