Shirley Doyle Godfrey

FAIRLEE, VT — Shirley Doyle Godfrey, 87, of Fairlee, VT passed away at Genesis Healthcare in Lebanon, NH on October 30, 2019. She was born in April 17, 1932 in Strafford, Vermont, a daughter of James and Mildred (Judd) Doyle.

Shirley was educated in Strafford and graduated from Bradford Academy. Shirley took classes at Franconia College and earned a B.A. from Goddard College. She studied law under a clerkship in Newbury, VT.

She was married in 1952 to Leighton K. Godfrey. They were the parents of three children. In 1987 she was remarried to Richard Rand, Jr. Mr. Rand died in 2009.

For many years Shirley served in the role of town clerk of Fairlee, VT. among other town government positions. She was the probate judge for Orange County(VT) for seventeen years, initially appointed by Gov. Madeliene Kunin to fill a vacancy.

Shirley leaves her three children, Deborah Osheyack and husband Gary, Leighton “Chip” Godfrey, and Todd Godfrey and wife Keisha. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Abraham, Eli, Nathan, Benjamin, Yosef, Ruth, Daniel, Abigail, Miriam and Hannah Osheyack and three great grandchildren. She also leaves siblings Paul, Kenneth, Richard, Marjory,and Dorothy, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Dawson, William, Donald, Robert, and Charles and sisters Catherine King and Ruth Waterbury.
