When some people still have their heads on their pillows, the participants in the Upper Valley Rowing Foundation’s novice rowing program are sitting in their seats.
The program introduces adults with now crew experience to sweep rowing in an eight-seat boat. Rowing technique, boat handling skills and water safety are all part of the plan, leading to work involving a coxswain and accompanied by a motor launch.
In addition to two on-the-water workouts a week, the group gets additional dry-land practice at Dartmouth’s Alumni Gym. It starts at 5:30 a.m. — wicked early for some, perfect for an early boat trip.
