WEST LEBANON, NH — Rachel F. Curtis, 87, died Friday morning, February 8, 2019 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Rachel was born January 31, 1932 in Windsor, VT the daughter of Raymond T. and Mary H. (Leclair) Fifield.

She grew up in West Lebanon and she graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1950. Rachel was a very hard worker and started working at the age of sixteen at the Cross Company in White River Jct., while she was still in school. After graduating from West Lebanon High School in 1950 she married a short time later on September 7, 1952 to Donald Curtis. They made their home in West Lebanon, NH. She worked at the 1st National Bank until 1959 when they decided she would stay home to raise their two sons.

Their youngest son Kenneth was born with a mental handicap, so Rachel became very active member of the Upper Valley Association for Retarded Children and served as the association's secretary for several years. Her hobbies included cooking, especially baking banana bread for others to enjoy, camping and working on word puzzles.

She was also a devoted member of the Holy Redeemer Church in West Lebanon until the church closed.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald who died in 1978.

Rachel is survived by her two sons, Donald R. Curtis and his wife, Debra of West Lebanon, NH, Kenneth A. Curtis of Newport, NH, a granddaughter, Nicole Curtis of Plainfield, NH and a step grandson, Frank Weigel and his 2 sons of Odessa, FL, a brother, Raymond Fifield and his wife Betty of Wilder, VT and 3 nieces and a nephew.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday morning, Feb. 13, at 10AM in the West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon, NH.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Special Olympics.
