Pauline Romano McCarthy

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT — Pauline Romano McCarthy, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday February 17, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Born February 6, 1929 to the late Albert Sr. and Clorinda Lena Romano. Pauline graduated as the salutatorian from Hartford High School class of 1946. On May 5, 1951 she married the love of her life Robert E. McCarthy Sr. They made a home together in White River Jct., VT and had two children, Robert Jr. and Richard McCarthy. Pauline was a lifelong Upper Valley resident. She spent 44 years with the New England Telephone Company, mostly in sales, until her retirement in 1989.

In her free time Pauline enjoyed watching game shows, reading, and enjoying the company of her family, in her younger years she also enjoyed travelling cooking and swimming.

She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She is survived by her son Robert Jr. and wife Cindy McCarthy of Lebanon, NH; grandsons Patrick McCarthy and significant other Carli of Lebanon, NH, Ryan McCarthy and wife Rebecca of Milford, NH, and three treasured great grandchildren Kaelyn, Brayden and Camden; brothers Dr. Albert Romano and wife Nancy of Agawam, MA, Richard Romano and wife Kay of Reading, MA; sister, Patricia Castellini and husband Herbert of White River Jct., VT and many nieces and nephews.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Robert Sr., son Richard McCarthy and sister Antoinette Mayette.

The last four years of her life Pauline resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Cindy in Lebanon, NH and enjoyed spending her summers with them on Halls Lake in Newbury, VT.

Pauline’s family would like to say a special thank you to Claudia Simard who helped take care of Pauline for the last 6 years as well as Bayada Hospice, especially Janet Stephenson and Darcy Bagley.

A visitation will be held Thursday February 21st from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday February 22nd at 10AM at St. Anthony Church with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery both in White River Jct.
