WEST LEBANON — Two longtime Valley News journalists are taking on expanded roles in the newsroom.

Geoff Hansen has been named managing editor, and Nora Doyle-Burr has been named news editor.

Hansen was hired as a staff photographer at the Valley News in 1989. Since then, he has held various jobs in the newsroom, including managing the photography staff. In recent years, he has been more involved in overall newsroom operations. Before the Valley News, he studied visual communication at the University of Minnesota and had photography internships at newspapers in Kalamazoo, Mich., and Quincy, Mass.

In his new role, Hansen will manage the day-to-day newsroom operations while he continues to oversee the photo staff.

Doyle-Burr started at the Valley News as a staff writer in March 2014. She covered the city of Lebanon as a beat reporter, before moving to features where she wrote about education and food. Since 2017, she has covered health care, including through the COVID-19 pandemic. She previously worked at the Hardwick Gazette and at the Christian Science Monitor. She holds a master’s degree in science and medical journalism from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Carleton College.

In her role, Doyle-Burr will help reporters identify and prioritize stories to cover. She will also play an central role in new reader outreach initiatives planned for the coming year.

“Geoff and Nora are invaluable colleagues and I’m thrilled they have agreed to take on these new positions in our newsroom,” said Editor Matt Clary. “They’ve both demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the Valley News and serving its readers.”
