NEW LONDON — The Colby-Sawyer College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Dean McCurdy the 10th president of the school.

McCurdy previously served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana.

A former professor of biology at Bowdion College in Maine and Albion College in Michigan, McCurdy has authored 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers on fish, crustaceans, shorebirds and turtles living in coastal and inland environments in Maine, Nova Scotia and Suriname, South America, according to a Thursday news release from Colby-Sawyer.

Laura Sykes, former academic vice president and dean of faculty at the college, has served as interim president since last July when Susan Stuebner, who had led the college since 2016 stepped down.

McCurdy is scheduled to step into his role as President of the college on June 1.
