Nordic skiing: Lebanon’s Hanna sweeps NHIAA D-II girls’ races

GORHAM, N.H. — Lebanon High’s Annie Hanna won both the girls’ freestyle and classic races at the NHIAA Division II Nordic skiing state meet on Wednesday at the Great Glen Trails, leading the Raiders to a third-place finish among 14 teams.

Hanna won the 4-kilometer freestyle race in 11 minutes, 54 seconds, three seconds ahead of Plymouth’s Addison Eglund. In the classic race of the same distance, Hanna crossed first in 14:18, again beating Eglund, this time by 19 seconds.

The Hanover girls finished fourth as a team, led by Elsa May in the freestyle race (11th, 13:33) and Meg Frost in the classic (13th, 16:50.7). May was 15th in the classic (17:05) and Frost was 14th in the freestyle (14:00). Other top finishers among the 58 skiers in the freestyle race were Lebanon’s Sophie Longacre (15th, 14:06.1), Sophia Mladek (21st, 14:38.6) and Elizabeth Kourbatski (23rd, 14:42) and Hanover’s Heidi Davis (24th, 14:44) and June Clark (28th, 15:03).

In the classic race, Longacre was 16th (17:07), Kourbatski 18th (17:22), Davis 19th (17:34), Clark 21st (17:43) and Mladek 22nd (17:44).

For the boys, Hanover finished fourth among 14 teams, tied with Kearsarge, and Lebanon was sixth.

In the 4K classic race with 68 skiers, Hanover’s top finisher was Nicholas Van Citters (12th, 14:08), followed by Albert Gilbert-Diamond (14th, 14:20). Other local finishers included Lebanon’s Carson Jones (16th, 14:32) and Otto Bourne (17th, 14:33), Hanover’s Will Parker (22nd, 14:48) and Lebanon’s Angelo Goodwin (23rd, 14:57), Francis Calandrella (24th, 15:05) and James Barnett(26th, 15:15).

In the freestyle race, Gilbert-Diamond was 13th (11:52) and Van Citters finished 17th (12:02). Other Upper Valley finishers in the field of 70 were Barnett (19th, 12:14), Parker (20th, 12:18) Goodwin (21st, 12:19), Bourne (24th, 12:24), Jones (28th, 12:28) and Calandrella (31st, 12:46).

Boys team scores: Gilford 755, Fall Mountain 678, Hopkinton 668, Kearsarge 649, Hanover 649, Lebanon 641, Plymouth 637, Inter-Lakes 549, Bow 541, Profile 523, White Mountains 515, Sunapee 414, Derryfield 231, Belmont 200.
