A man whose reported threats prompted beefed up security outside two state office buildings on Thursday has been taken into custody, according to police.

Malachi Buswell was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday by Shelburne Police, according to Lt. Allen Fortin in the Shelburne Police Department.

Fortin said police got a tip that Buswell had been staying with a friend at Harbor Place in Shelburne, a facility that provides temporary emergency shelter and services to those in need.

When police went there they took him into custody without incident, the lieutenant said Thursday afternoon. Buswell was wanted on a warrant alleging he violated his probation. Fortin said he had no other information, including the underlying charges that landed Buswell on probation.

A recent warrant for a Malachi Buswell could not be located early Thursday afternoon in Chittenden County Superior Court.

Sheriffs deputies were deployed outside the state Department of Corrections Probation and Parole office in Burlington and the state Department for Children and Families in Williston earlier in the day in light of reported threats made by Buswell against those facilities over a child custody issue.

VTDigger obtained an email reportedly from Buswell containing threats he made to DOC and DFC. In that email, which was circulated among state employees on Wednesday, Buswell talks about “not allowing them to take my daughter.”

That email stated, “They are about to learn that one man can take out 3 state building and all their employees while sitting in his pos (sic) office.”

According to a separate email sent to staff of the state DOC probation and parole in Burlington on Wednesday, Buswell failed to show for his parole revocation hearing earlier Wednesday at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.

Fortin said Thursday following his arrest Buswell was taken to that regional correctional facility in South Burlington.
