Local roundup: WRV boys beat rival Sharon

SOUTH ROYALTON — The White River Valley boys basketball team used a balanced offensive attack, with five players in double figures, in a 72-42 victory over rival Sharon on Thursday evening.

Zack Frary and Wyatt Cadwell led the Wildcats (3-2) with 15 points apiece, Donovan Craven and Tattin Griffin each had 12 and Brayden Russ added 11. WRV won its third straight after an 0-2 start.

Caleb Benjamin had 12 points for the Phoenix, who fell to 1-4. Daniel Piasecki chipped in with 10. The Wildcats are at Bellows Falls on Saturday. Sharon hosts Proctor next Tuesday.

Mid Vermont Christian 73, Craftsbury 28

CRAFTSBURY COMMON, VT. — The Eagles improved to 6-1 with the road win over the Chargers.

Joel Roberts and Abel Goodwin both had big nights for MVCS, with 26 and 24 points, respectively, and Goodwin added six steals. Roman Goeppner recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Carson Meloon chipped in with eight points and seven boards.

“I liked our defense, and we made smart decisions when running in transition,” Eagles coach Erva Barnes said.

MVCS hosts Long Trail on Saturday in a matchup of the top two teams in VPA Division IV.

Rivendell 75, Oxbow 28

BRADFORD — The Raptors improved to 5-3 with the blowout of the Olympians, who fell to 1-6.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Windsor 60, Brattleboro 25

WINDSOR — A vintage Sydney Perry double-double (17 points, 14 rebounds) led the Yellowjackets to their third straight win. Perry also had three steals and three blocks in the victory over the Colonels.

Sophia Rockwood added 15 points and four steals for Windsor (6-2). Audrey Rupp had eight and Amber Simonds seven. The Yellowjackets host Otter Valley on Saturday.

Peoples 57, Oxbow 49

MORRISTOWN, VT. — The Olympians (4-2) battled hard on the road against another VPA Division III contender but fell short against the Wolves.

Sophomore Maggi Ellsworth led Oxbow with 21 points, and Emerson Fuller stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks. Freshman Natalee Spear added nine points for the O’s. Peoples star Shelby Wells led all scorers with 26.

Oxbow is in for another tough test at home against Thetford on Monday.

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps fell to 2-4 with the loss to the Cosmos. Woodstock hosts Randolph on Saturday.
