HANOVER — The Hanover High boys soccer team got a goal just before halftime from junior Zach Tracy to beat previously undefeated Manchester Memorial, 1-0.

“A great combination play by senior Jack Gardner and junior Will Guerin was saved, but forced a corner kick, and junior Ryder Hayes, a force all day at midfield, deflected the ball to Tracy for his second goal of the season,” Hanover coach Rob Grabill said.

After the break, Hanover was dominant, out shooting Memorial 6-2 with a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Ty Nolon earned his second shutout of the season.

In the first half, the teams played evenly with most of the action at midfield. Gardner had one good scoring chance but it was not until the final minute when Hanover broke through.

Grabill said senior defenders Becket McCurdy, Owen Smith and Alex McGrath, anchored the solid defense, limiting the Crusaders to five shots the entire game.

The Bears (3-1) travel to Concord on Saturday against another unbeaten team.

Mascoma 5, Berlin 2

BERLIN, N.H. — Senior Zach Thompson netted three goals to lead the Royals to their third win of the year.

Junior Aidan Smith had a goal and two assists and sophomore Tanner Moulton also scored.  Sophomore Matt Favreau had six saves in net for Mascoma.

Mascoma (3-0-1) is home to Fall Mountain on Tuesday.

MANCHESTER — The Bears (2-2) scored three times in the first half for an easy win.

Junior Maeve Lee had a goal and an assist, and seniors Emilia Torresani and Casey Havrda and sophomore Reese Hamlin also scored. Other assists belonged to juniors Sydney McLaughlin and Sophie Wise and senior Mia Madden.

Hanover is at Timberlane on Saturday.

Mount St. Joseph 1, Sharon 0

SHARON — Senior Lily Welch had 15 saves and sophomore Avry Loftus had six shots on net for the Phoenix.

It was a scoreless match and evenly played until MSJ booted home the winner in the 65th minute.

“The game could have easily been 3-2 in either direction, both keepers had great games. MSJ played well and capitalized on their opportunities,” Sharon coach Andy Ruddell said.

Sharon (0-2) welcomes Twin Valley on Monday.

Rivendell 9, Bellows Falls 0

ORFORD — Freshman Harper Traendly had three goals and three assists and senior Ryleigh Butler scored three times in the dominating win.

Also contributing were junior Colleen Underhill, a goal and an assist, and freshmen Jillian Bushee and Bradleigh Bushee, a goal each. Freshman Allie Vogelian had two assists and sophomore Shaylee Carter one. Junior Lauren Smith played 60 minutes in goal and freshman Wayah Cook finished the game.

The Raptors (2-1) are home to Leland and Gray on Tuesday.

White River Valley 8, Mill River 0

SOUTH ROYALTON – The Wildcats had a balanced scoring attack with goals and assists from 10 different players.

Senior Jillian Barry scored twice and single scores came from freshman Sarah Rule, who added an assist, freshman Amara Calhum-Flowers (goal and assist), and senior Shannon Hadlock,  sophomore Norah Harwood, freshmen Logan Scott and Mackenzie Vesper. Freshman Olivia Tuller and senior Ellie Prestridge each had an assist.

WRV had 11 corner kicks in the game.

“Mackenzie Vesper is starting her freshman season with her eyes on the goal,” said White River Coach Kim Prestridge. “She has scored in two of the first three games for WRV. She opened up the scoring against Mill River in the 8th minute.

“Our team chemistry was impressive today,” Prestridge continued. “We had strong efforts from our freshman class. Tanner Drury’s effort in midfield stood out today. She gave us some amazing opportunities to put the ball in the net.”

White River Valley (2-1-0) is at Twin Valley next Thursday.

Stevens 9, Newfound 0

CLAREMONT — The Cardinals got another strong game from senior Stella Lavertue (three goals) and ran their record to 5-0.

Senior Tori Dalke contributed a goal and assist and juniors Maddy Minckler, Maddie LaVarnway, Navaeh LeBlanc, senior Aidan Antonovich and freshman Bri Marsh also scored. Kiley Bundy and freshman Kaiya Richard added an assist each. Senior goalie Hailey Knight had five saves.

Stevens (5-0) plays at rival Newport on Tuesday.

Field hockeyHartford 9, Brattleboro 1

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Sophomore Madi Barwood’s four goals and two assists led the Hurricanes who got goals from five other players.

Junior Madison Willey had a goal and three assists, sophomore Olivia Seaver her first varsity goal, and senior Alice Piper, sophomore Dakota Smith, and junior Kam Brower a goal each. Freshman Charlotte Jasmin had three assists and junior Gabby Gardner one. Sophomore Paige Vielleux was in goal the first half and freshman Nella Bower the second half.

The Hurricanes scored early and led 6-0 at the break.

Hartford (2-0) is home to Fair Haven on Saturday.

GolfRaiders win in a tiebreaker

ASHLAND, N.H. — Lebanon won in a tiebreaker over Souhegan to improve to 3-0 on the year.

The teams were tied at  86 with the scores of the first four golfers and at 104 with five scores. The sixth golfer, Lebanon junior Jack Clary’s received 17 points for his round of 46 on the course to edge Souhegan’s Matt Nowak, who had a 47 and 16 points, giving Lebanon the win.

“Huge win for Lebanon,” coach Matt Dancosse said. “Huge performance from freshman Nick Pace. Our depth showed today.”

Lebanon senior Roy Shapard had the best round of the day, shooting a 38 on the par-36 White Mountain Golf Course. Freshman Nick Pace (42), senior Dawson Bates (42) and senior Sam Bates (44) rounded out Lebanon’s top four. The Raiders fifth score was from sophomore Ben Britton (45).

Lebanon is at Newport on Friday with Pelham and Kearsarge

Results: Lebanon 121, Souhegan 120, Plymouth 59, Beaver Meadow 43.

Stevens finishes second

LACONIA, N.H. — Another strong showing by sophomores Aubree Herzog and Ian Gersberg led the Cardinals to a second place finish in a four-team match at Laconia Country Club.

Gersberg shot a 46 on the par-36 nine hole course and Herzog was two shots behind at 48. Senior Cedric Allen shot a 51 and Justin Demars a 53 to complete Stevens scoring.

Stevens is at Derryfield Friday.

Newport has its best outing

NEWPORT — The Tigers were fourth in a four-team match at the John Cooper Golf Course.

Freshman Devan Robbins received 14 points, sophomore Amilio Urista, 9 points and freshman Cooper Bocash and eighth grader Carter White two points each.

Results: Hopkinton 74, Sunapee 56, Gotham 36, Newport 25

Cross CountryNewport third at Inter-Lakes

 

MEREDITH, N.H. — Newport freshman Bryce Palmer was third overall (19:37) in a three-team cross country meet with Inter-Lakes and Moultonborough.

Newport placed third with 459 points, just behind Moultonborough with 463. Inter-Lakes won the meet with 487 points.

Also scoring for the Tigers on the 2.8 mile course was eighth grader Tristan Hannum, 8th place (22:24), freshman Michael Bohn (9th, 22:26) and freshman Joshua Jordan (18th, 26:14).
