BARRINGTON, N.H. — Coe-Brown handed the Lebanon High golf team its first defeat of the NHIAA Division III season in a three-school match on Nippo Lake Golf Club’s par-35 front nine on Thursday.
The Bears (5-0) produced four Stableford scoring efforts of at least 20 points to eke out a victory. Lebanon’s Roy Shapard had a medal-winning 23 points — thanks to a 4-over-par 39 — for the Raiders. Coe-Brown’s Dante Ceppetelli (22), Alex Myslinsky (21), Jacob Pelletier (20) and Jack Smith (20) provided the depth to claim honors.
Alex Blish and Dawson Bates both had 19 points for Lebanon (12-1), which took second ahead of John Stark, and Nate Stark finished with 17. The Raiders visit Hooper Golf Club in Walpole to face off with ConVal and Fall Mountain on Monday.
Team scores: Coe-Brown 83, Lebanon 78, John Stark 46.
WOODSTOCK — The Patriots kept the Wasps’ attack under wraps after surrendering the match’s first goal.
Ezra Lockhart notched his team-high sixth goal of the year to get Woodstock (2-3-0) on the board, knocking home a ball headed across the goalmouth by Zach Martsolf-Tan following a free kick. Mount Anthony beat Woodstock’s pressure to score just after halftime and late in regulation to take the victory.
“The Woodstock boys can be proud of how they played this game,” coach Rob Stainton said. “It was closely contested throughout and could have gone either way. Probably the best soccer the team has played this season.”
The Wasps visit Rutland on Saturday.
PLAISTOW, N.H. — Isabella Keogh scored twice as the Owls stopped Hanover (2-6-1) in an NHIAA Division I match.
Hanover coach Doug Kennedy praised Riley McGuire’s efforts at creating offense through the second half along with Nora Bradley’s steady midfield play. Maeve Lee scored the visitors’ sole goal in the 53rd minute on passes from Casey Havrda and Emilia Torresani. Goalie Kaye Lindsay finished with five saves.
“Hanover was asleep in the first two minutes and gave up two goals,” Kennedy noted. “We gradually woke up after 20 minutes, at which point the score was 4-0, and then played relatively even the remainder of the way. We have learned that playing in D-I requires exceedingly long bus rides.”
Hanover catches a break from here on out: Five of its final seven matches are at home, starting with a Tuesday visit from Vermont foe Burr & Burton.
MORETOWN, Vt. — The Highlanders blew open a 1-1 contest at halftime and overwhelmed the Panthers (2-3-1).
Madi Powers accounted for Thetford’s first-half tally, scoring unassisted. Heidi Hewes finished with nine saves in the goal for the Panthers.
Thetford, which has dropped three straight and is winless in four, will look to right the ship at home against Montpelier on Wednesday.
CONCORD — The defending NHIAA Division III champion Green Giants continue to possess ample firepower, as they showed in stopping the Tigers (2-3-0).
Libbey Hicks had a hat trick for Brady (6-1-0), and Carly Fuller provided the home team’s other two goals. Katie Sharron nNewport’s goal, Eden Ritondo set it up and Mia Fischer added a goal-line block to deny the Green Giants another goal.
“The girls played a tough game today, considering we only had one available sub,” Newport coach Kaitlynn Porter said. “But they kept their heads up and kept pushing themselves.”
The Tigers travel to Gilford on Saturday.
