NORTH SUTTON, N.H. — The Lebanon High girls lacrosse team escaped Kearsarge with a second straight hard-fought win on Thursday afternoon, an 8-6 nailbiter over the Cougars in summer-like conditions.

The win is the second this week for the Raiders (9-3) over Kearsarge following an 11-10 win in Lebanon on Tuesday. Catherine Cole led a balanced effort for the Raiders with three goals and an assist.

“Overall, it was a great team effort. It’s a lot to play two tough games in three days against the same team,” Lebanon coach Sara Ecker said. “The girls came out focused and read to play today, having made some adjustments at practice yesterday.”

Molly Smith added two goals for the Raiders. Maddie Jewell had a goal and an assist. Sydney Gonyea and Ella Longacre each scored once. Kayla Taber and Rachel Harrington tallied an assist each. Goalie Lena Nowell anchored a strong effort by the Lebanon defense with 11 saves.

The Raiders are back in action on Saturday against Pelham with faceoff in Lebanon at 10 a.m.

Hartford 13, Lamoille 0

HYDE PARK, Vt. — The undefeated Hurricanes (12-0) easily disposed of host Lamoille.

Zoe Pfeiffer led the attack for Hartford with five goals and an assist. Elliot Rupp added a pair of goals and Sophie Howe had a goal and two assists. Addison Cadwell, Caroline Hamilton and Jasmine Jenkins had a goal and an assist each.

Junior varsity callups Gabby Gardner and Elsie Davis each chipped in goals for the Canes. Hartford looks to keep it rolling at Vergennes-Mount Abraham on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Boys LacrosseGoffstown 9, Hanover 7

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — The Grizzlies scored six goals in the second half to edge in front of visiting Hanover (4-5).

Hanover built a 4-3 lead at halftime, but Goffstown took control in the third quarter to lead, 7-5, heading into the fourth.

Noah Fahey led Hanover with three goals.

Brett Simmons added two goals and an assist. Seamus Murphy and Jon Hurd each had a goal. D.H. Hendrick had a pair of assists. Jack Gardner had nine ground balls and was 6-for-9 on faceoffs for Hanover.

Hanover closes the regular season with a pair of games against Keene next week, beginning with a visit from the Blackbirds on Tuesday.

 

Girls TennisRutland 5, Woodstock 2

RUTLAND — The Wasps got wins from a pair of freshmen.

Sophia Nisimblat earned a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles for Woodstock. Chloe Masillo then won, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 5 singles. Coach Tom Hopewell was universal in praise of each, saying it was the best match either has played so far in their varsity careers.

Woodstock visits Brattleboro on Saturday.

Kearsarge 9, Stevens 0

CLAREMONT — The Cardinals wrapped up the regular season with a loss to the Cougars, one of the top teams in NHIAA Division III. Stevens will now regroup for the D-III playoffs starting next week.

BaseballThetford 7, U-32 6 (8)

THETFORD — Ryan Malloy sent the Panthers’ faithful home happy with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the hosts a comeback win over U-32.

Thetford set up the extra-inning drama by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score at 5-5. A run by U-32 in the top of the eighth put the visitors back in front. Mitchell Parkman and Ethan Marshia battled to get on base to start the home half of the eight before Malloy laced a double to score both and give Thetford the win.

“We showed a lot of fight today. I’m really proud of the team’s mental toughness, coming back in the seventh and eighth inning. Beating a quality team like U-32 does a lot for our confidence,” Thetford coach Phil Chaput said.

Nolan Pepe had a pair of hits, drove in one and scored a run for the Panthers. Marshia had a hit, walked twice and scored twice. Logan Brinkman started on the bump for Thetford, pitching the first four innings while allowing three runs on four hits and six walks. Mack Briglin and Jacob Gilman combined for four innings of relief work, battling through several jams to keep Thetford close.

The Panthers (8-3) will visit Oxbow on Saturday.

Woodstock 7, Leland & Gray 3

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps took advantage of numerous walks and hit batsmen to take down the Rebels.

Memphis Begin set the tone in the first inning, reaching on a HBP before stealing second and third and scoring on Alex Rice’s RBI groundout. Jackson Martin added a two-run single in the third inning. Brooks Ruderman singled and scored a run in the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Tom Bissaillon walked four times and came around to score one run.

Bissaillon tossed a complete game for Woodstock, striking out while scattering four walks and two hits. The Wasps (4-6) host Bellows Falls on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

SoftballWindsor 27, Hartford 0 (5)

WINDSOR — The Yellowjackets (7-3) dispatched the visiting Hurricanes (2-7).

Windsor hosts Green Mountain on Monday. Hartford looks to rebound at Randolph on Saturday.
