WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Playing at its home away from home, the Hanover High girls tennis team swept Manchester Memorial, 9-0, on Thursday at the Hartford High School courts.

The Hanover boys shut out Spaulding a day earlier at Hartford High.

Eleanor van Aalst (8-0), Brooke Voelker (8-0), Emma Watson (8-2), Carly Miles (8-0), Lyric Wilson (8-0) and Emma Marks (8-0) won in singles, while the duos of van Aalst/Watson (8-0), Voelker/Miles (8-0) and Wilson/Marks (8-0) prevailed in doubles for the Marauders (3-0), who return to Hartford on Friday to face Alvirne.

BOYS TENNISMontpelier 7, Hartford 0

MONTPELIER — Hartford (0-1) opened its season with a loss to Montpelier, which reached the VPA Division I semifinals last season.

The Hurricanes’ closest defeat was at No. 3 singles, where Nick Jones lost, 5-7, 5-7.

Hartford is off until April 22, when it visits Middlebury.


Brattleboro 13Woodstock 5

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Audrey Eggum and Gina Sorrentino scored two goals apiece in Woodstock’s loss to Brattleboro.

Kelly Gebhardt added a goal and an assist for the Wasps (0-2). Kai Albers made eight saves in goal for Woodstock, which hosts Stowe on April 23.
