Local Roundup: Dartmouth Men’s Tennis Trips Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Dartmouth College men’s tennis defeated Drake, 4-3, at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center on Sunday to split its weekend trip to the Midwest.

Sophomores Peter Conklin and Casey Ross won a 7-6 decision at second doubles to break a 1-1 tie and give Dartmouth the doubles point. Wins from junior David Horneffer and Ross upped the visitors’ lead to 3-0 with singles wins, but Drake stormed back to tie the match.

That put the spotlight on freshman Sid Chari at No. 5 singles. Chari had to go to three sets before squeezing out a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 victory to send Dartmouth home with a win.

Dartmouth heads to Philadelphia for the ECAC Indoor Championship this weekend.

Women’s TennisGreen Sixth at ECACs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The fifth-seeded Big Green wrapped up the ECAC Indoor Championships with a 4-1 loss to No. 7 Yale, a defeat that left Dartmotuh in sixth place for the weekend tournament.

Freshman Jingyi Peng defeated the Bulldogs’ Caroline Amos, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 6 for Dartmouth’s sole singles point. Yale won doubles, grabbed fifth singles and added two more wins after Peng’s decision.

The Big Green is off until travelling to Marquette and Michigan State on Feb. 23-24.
