Local Roundup: Big Green Starts Strong At ITA Tennis Regionals

Princeton, n.j. — Dartmouth College men’s tennis players John Speicher and Sid Chari won all of their matches on Friday in the qualifying round of the ITA Northeast Regional Championship at Princeton.

Speicher first took down St. Bonaventure’s Marco Rivolo, 7-6 (2), 6-1, before following that up with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Niclas Pietsch, of Fairleigh Dickinson.

Chari defeated Army’s Anant Mundra, 6-2, 6-1, and Aleksa Petrovic, of NJIT, 6-2, 6-1.

The main draw of the regionals will begin today.

Hanover Athlete Commits to Duke

Hanover — Maddie McCorkle, a junior lacrosse and basketball player at Hanover High, has committed to play at Duke University in the former sport.

A standout for the Marauders lacrosse team during her first two seasons, McCorkle also plays for a club team out of Boston that travels throughout the Northeast and into states such as Virginia and Maryland. She is the daughter of Sammy McCorkle, associate head coach of the Dartmouth College football team.

Duke was 8-9 overall last season and 2-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which includes national powers such as North Carolina, Notre Dame and Syracuse. The 2018 Blue Devils played 12 games against teams in the national top 25 rankings. Duke reached the 2015 national semifinals and lost in the quarterfinals the year before.

Sharon — Olly Skeet-Browning scored a pair of unassisted goals as Sharon (3-8-1) fell to Ranolph.

Ben Rodis made six saves for the Phoenix, which visits Twinfield on Tuesday.
