Joseph Barbagallo

GRAFTON, NH — Joseph Barbagallo, of Grafton, NH and Woburn, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday January 5, 2019 at 93 years of age. He was the husband of the late Virginia (McDermott) Barbagallo.

Born February 16, 1925, he was the fourth of nine children of the late Pietro, and the late Concettina (Amenta) Barbagallo. Joe grew up in Somerville, MA, and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served as a Gunners Mate Second Class during WWII.

Joe first worked as an airplane mechanic. He later worked as supervisor of a group of machinists, working on a variety of experimental projects for the Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Joe could fix anything. Throughout his life he enjoyed hiking, fishing and downhill and cross-country skiing. He also enjoyed improving the fields and trails on his farm in Grafton, NH. Joe loved entertaining family and friends there, and moved to the farm full-time after he retired.

Joe is survived by one son, Peter Barbagallo of Milford, NH; and one daughter, Patricia McCauley and her husband Robert of Woburn, MA, and he was preceded in death by one son, the late Paul Barbagallo. Joe is also survived by five grandchildren, Amberlee Barbagallo, Victoria Barbagallo, Robert McCauley, Michael McCauley and his wife Kristen, and Melissa Jensen and her husband Steven; and five great grandchildren, Robert, Eliza and Karalyn McCauley, and Carter and Anna Jensen. Joe is further survived by two brothers, Ronald Barbagallo of Boston, MA, and Robert Barbagallo of Wakefield, MA; and he was preceded in death by three brothers, the late Charles Barbagallo, the late Pasquale “Pat” Barbagallo, the late Albert Barbagallo; and three sisters, the late Mary Hansen, the late Gloria Andonian, and the late Joan Murray.

Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn, MA on Friday, January 11 from 4-8 pm. A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem St., Woburn, MA on Saturday, January 12 at 10:00 am.
