EAST THETFORD, VT — Jean R. Godfrey, 90 died on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

She was born March 6, 1928 in Randolph, VT the daughter of Norman and Vanna H. (Padgett) Rhodes. She attended school in Strafford and later attended Thetford Academy in Thetford, VT.

On November 24, 1945 she married Bernard Godfrey of Thetford. They lived all their married in life in Thetford where they raised their two daughters.

She worked at H. W. Carter’s & Son in Lebanon, NH and for Dr. Barr for two years before working seventeen years at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH. After retirement in 1990, Jean and Bernard enjoyed spending many warm winters in Tavares, FL until 2002.

She was a former member of the Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, swimming in her pond, snowmobiling and attending church.

She is survived by a daughter, June Davidson of East Thetford, VT; two grandsons, Scott Davidson of East Thetford, VT and Jay Reunanen of Stratton, VT; three great grandchildren, Zach, Jenna and Caleb; a brother, Norman Rhodes, Jr. of Lebanon, NH; three sister in laws, Ruth Jenks and her husband Roger of Lyme, NH, Barbara Smith of Hanover, NH and Margaret Godfrey of Canaan, NH; two brother in laws, Richard Godfrey of Lebanon, NH and Don Reunanen of East Thetford, VT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Godfrey in 2011; a daughter, Rose Reunanen and two brothers, Everett Rhodes and Wilmer “Dusty” Rhodes.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2 pm at the Thetford Baptist Church in East Thetford, VT. The burial will be later this spring in the Evergreen Rest Cemetery in Thetford Center, VT.
