Rev. James "Jim" Allen Benware

LANCASTER, SC — Rev. James “Jim” Allen Benware went home to be with the Lord on August 12, 2019 in Lancaster, SC at the age of 73.

Jim was born May 22, 1946 to Adeloid & Doris Benware in Lebanon, NH. He grew up in Meriden, NH and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1964. Jim served in the United States Air Force until 1968, then worked as a police officer in the Upper Valley where he met and married Susan Woodward in 1973. He worked many years with his father at Joe’s Equipment in West Lebanon, NH. Jim and Sue moved to the south in 1992, residing in North Carolina and Florida before settling in South Carolina.

After earning his Master of Theology degree from Carolina Bible College, Jim was ordained and entered the ministry in 2008. He served as Pastor of Beacon Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC, at the time of his home-going. Jim was a lifelong outdoor person, tended small animals, and was very involved with the Lancaster County Beekeeping Association.

Jim is survived by his mother Doris (Brown) Benware of West Lebanon, NH; wife Susan (Woodward) Benware; brother Stanley (Pamela) Benware of Fairlee, VT; sister Christine Benware Paul of Lebanon, NH; nephews Mark (Melissa) Benware; Andrew (Jennifer) Benware; nieces Jennifer (Bradley) Jury; Sarah (Timothy) Shine; Kathryn Jenzer; Hannah Paul and nineteen great-nieces and great-nephews. Jim was preceded in death in 2013 by his father, Adeloid Benware.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7th at Olivet Baptist Church, 44 Maple St., West Lebanon, NH. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the building fund at Beacon Baptist Church, 1982 Evans Dr., Lancaster, SC 29720.
