Ivy/New England Basketball: Penn Bests Harvard

Philadelphia — AJ Brodeur had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Pennsylvania beat Harvard, 74-71, on Saturday night in a battle between the top two Ivy League teams.

Penn (21-7, 11-1 Ivy League) concludes league play next week traveling to Yale and Brown. Harvard (15-12, 10-2) hosts Cornell and Columbia.

Ryan Betley made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points for the Quakers. Darnell Foreman, who grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in Friday’s victory over Dartmouth, finished with 14 points and five assists but without a rebound. Caleb Wood chipped in 10 points.

Cornell 73, Brown 68

Ithaca, n.y. — Matt Morgan scored 17 points and Stone Gettings made the clinching free throws with 6.8 seconds left and Cornell defeated Brown.

Vermont 69, Stony Brook 60

New York — Trae Bell-Haynes had 19 points, including six in the final four minutes, and six assists and Payton Henson added 17 points and nine rebounds to help Vermont beat Stony Brook.

Bell-Haynes found Nate Rohrer for a tie-breaking layup and Henson converted a 3-point play to spark a 15-6 run over the final 5:26. Stony Brook (12-18, 7-9 America East) trimmed its deficit to 61-58 with 1:48 to play, but Ernie Duncan answered with a layup before Bell-Haynes and Drew Urquhart made 6 of 6 free throws from there to seal.

Urquhart finished with 16 points for Vermont (24-6, 14-1).

Akwasi Yeboah led Stony Brook with 21 points.

Vermont shot 50 percent from the field, outscored the Seawolves 24-16 from the free-throw line and had a 37-22 rebounding edge.

Henson’s tipin with 6:54 left gave him 1,000 career points.
