A late-morning car crash on Interstate 91 killed the driver and sent two women to the hospital after the vehicle lost control, rolled over multiple times and crossed the median into the other side of the interstate, Vermont State Police said Thursday.

At 11:08 a.m., police received a report that a vehicle traveling southbound in Hartland had rolled and come to rest in a northbound lane. One of the occupants was ejected from the car, according to police.

The driver, 83-year-old David Roberts, of Canaan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two female passengers were transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Authorities said one passenger was being treated for serious, life-threatening injuries, and the other for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

A small dog was also found at the scene and taken to a veterinary hospital, officials at the scene said Thursday.

Police said the investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933.
