LEBANON, NH — David Vernon Atkins passed away peacefully January 14, 2021 at DHMC in Lebanon NH, surrounded by his children. He was 85 years old.

David was born on July 15, 1935 in Dalton, NH, the second of four children to Leonard and Verna (Badger) Atkins. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Hardwick, VT. He attended Hardwick schools, graduating in 1953 from Hardwick Academy. After graduation, David worked for the State of Vermont where he met our mom, Jacqueline L. Atkins. They were married on December 4th, 1965. They had three children: Molly, Christopher and Marcy. After living in Vermont for a few years, they moved to Lebanon.

After retirement, David and Jackie became world travelers, visiting all 50 states and 47 countries by car and cruise ship. Of all the places he traveled, he loved Arizona. He loved the beauty and the warmth of the desert, and all the colors of the canyons and rock formations. He loved hiking up Superstition Mountain in Mesa, AZ. Dad loved to garden, and his yard was a source of pride for him. He loved to spend his afternoons outside with a good book, usually a western. He loved a cup of coffee, collecting license plates and dream catchers. He was so wise and full of good advice for his children and grandchildren. He loved us and was proud of us, and we will miss him and honor him every day.

David is survived by his daughters, Molly (Donald) and Marcy (Cliff); son, Christopher (Laurie); grandchildren, Brianna (Aaron), Alexandra (Mickey), Myles, and Caroline; brother, Donald of East Montpelier, VT; sisters, Kathy Bolio of Barre, VT and Bonnie Betts of Buxton, ME; sisters-in-law, Gerry Mowatt and Lorraine Rogers of Williamstown, VT; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. To his friends, Doug and Monie Hudson and Sharon Renault, thank you for the memories! He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline, and grandson, Tyler.

We would like to thank the nurses and doctors at DHMC, Dr. Karen Loring and staff, Dr. Ernst Oidtmann, and Christina Moodie. We are so grateful and thankful!

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lebanon, NH.
