Dartmouth roundup: Northeastern field hockey blanks Big Green

BOSTON — Lauren Rowe scored less than three minutes into the contest, setting the table for the Northeastern University field hockey team’s 3-0 shutout of Dartmouth on Friday evening at Dedham Field.

Lexie Dunham fed Rowe’s opener for the Huskies (2-6-0). Lara Taylor upped the lead before halftime, and Cailin Hart clinched the victory with a fourth-quarter goal.

Northeastern freshman Kate Blaisdell, a Hanover High gradute, saw time on the field for the Huskies but didn’t factor on the stat sheet.

Senior Isabella Santucci and junior Hatley Post combined for 11 saves in goal for the Big Green (4-4-0).

Dartmouth hosts Cornell on Sunday in the teams’ Ivy League opener.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALLHarvard 3, Dartmouth 2

HANOVER — The Big Green (8-2, 0-1) came back from a two-set deficit in their Ivy League opener at Leede Arena but eventually succumbed to the Crimson (4-7, 1-0) by a 25-22, 25-19, 24-26, 23-25, 15-11 count.

Makenzie Arent had another double-double for Dartmouth, posting 22 assists and 15 digs. Emma Engstrom led the defense with 19 digs. Ellie Blain powered the attack with 14 kills.

Dartmouth is on the road for its next four contests, with a trip to Princeton and Penn next weekend.

CROSS COUNTRY Men eighth, women 11th at BC

BOSTON — The Dartmouth men’s cross country team was eighth and the women took 11th in Friday’s Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park.

Sophomore Will Daley had a team-best 16th-place finish for the men, crossing the line in 24 minutes, 40 seconds. The Big Green posted 246 points as a team.

Freshman Ellie Tymorek led the women, placing 47th in 18:08. Dartmouth had 345 points as a team.

The Big Green are off until Oct. 9, when they return to Boston for the New England Championship.
