CLAREMONT — The Claremont Planning Board unanimously approved a site plan for the proposed construction of a Wendy’s and Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants on Washington Street.

Before the site plan approval on Wednesday, the board approved a subdivision of four merged lots at 384-392 Washington St., owned by Robert Landry of Claremont, into two lots. The combined properties of 1.57 acres are located at the corner of Washington Street and Petrin Heights.

Daniel Hannoush, manager of the developer DDMNS Realty LLC of West Springfield, Mass., which will buy the properties, said Thursday they plan to begin construction in the spring with a targeted opening in early 2025.

The board had no objections to the application and said they were pleased with its thoroughness.

The restaurants will have shared parking and shared drive-through and bypass lanes. The developer will install pedestrian crossing signal lights at the intersection of Petrin Heights and Washington Street.

The Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported earlier this year that Chipotle’s growth strategy includes an emphasis on smaller stores in smaller communities.

The nearest Chipotle is in Keene, N.H., and the nearest Wendy’s is in West Lebanon.
